A New Year’s Day Message from Ambassador M. Nathaniel Barnes January 1, 2009 My
fellow Liberians, while we gather with friends and loved ones to
celebrate this holiday season, I would like to take this opportunity, on
behalf of our President, Her Excellency Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf; the
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honorable Olubanke King-Akerele; my wife
Dawn; the staff at the Liberian Embassy and in my own name; to wish all
of you a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
As we reflect on and give thanks for the past, let us focus, not only on
resolutions to improve our personal lives, but on our beloved Liberia as
well. Whatever adversity our nation has faced over the years, as we
continue to heal in unity, we must not forget our compatriots both here
in the United States and back home that may be less fortunate than
ourselves. Let us be grateful for a peaceful Liberia, and mindful that
we must never again allow our country to be consumed with war, self
hatred and deprivation.
