LCA-D/FW & Diaspora

Functional Committees

To get involve, please contact the committee that is closest to your interest, skills and Passion.

Membership

 Job Descriptions - The Membership Committee shall be responsible for recruiting new members, maintaining and updating the Membership database.  Key job skills and tools include computer and MS Windows appreciation, access to the Internet; and great interpersonal communication skills.

The Committee shall arrange for proper introduction of new members to the Organization, provide information to prospective members and provide a new membership orientation to new members including membership card.

The Membership Committee shall plan and conduct membership drives on a periodic basis as determined by the Committee with approval by the Executive Leadership Board.

Sports

Job Descriptions - The Sports Committee shall be responsible for identifying and arranging all sporting events with a purpose. This Committee shall communicate such sporting events to the members and extend invitations to Liberians, as appropriate.

This committee will coordinate LCA - DFW’s participation in the soccer a leagues – Children, men and women; to compete with other LCA teams and external to LCA. The committee shall also conduct kickball tournaments for our ladies. Sporting events shall focus on Basketball, Kickball, Soccer, walking and Track& Field.

The Programs Committee shall establish and provide its annual events and activities calendar to the program committee for inclusion into the overall LCA-D/FW annual programs, events and activities calendar. 

Personal & Professional Development

Job Descriptions - The Professional and Personal Development Committee shall be responsible for conducting Professional and Personal development workshops (personal and group level) and plan networking events in conjunction with the Membership Committee.

The Professional and Personal Development Committee shall seek and partner with other Resources to promote Professional and Personal development opportunities for members of the Liberian Association – D/FW.

Ways & Means / Programs

Job Descriptions - The Ways & Means/Programs Committee shall be responsible for identifying and arranging fund raising events and activities to support the funding needs of the LCA-DFW.

The Ways & Means/Programs Committee shall be responsible for planning and implementing the installation of president and other elected officers of the LCA-D/FW.  The Ways and Means Committee shall establish and provide its annual events and activities calendar to the ELC for approval and inclusion into the overall LCA-D/FW annual calendar of events.

Ways & Means/Programs shall also be responsible for planning networking events in conjunction with the Membership and other committees and for coordinating programs such as Saturday Scholar™, LCA-D/FW Senior Citizens Quarterly Birthday Celebrations, LCA-D/FW Children Christmas Party; Celebrating and Recognizing Our Graduates.

Education & College Relations

Job Descriptions - The Education & College Relations Committee shall be responsible for acting as the liaison with colleges and universities, Corporate Internship Programs; INROADS and BEEP.

The Education and College Relations Committee shall also have the responsibility for the raising and for administrating the LCA-D/FW Scholarship Fund; LCA-D/FW Scholarships Banquet and “Celebrating Excellence in education – The Graduates” as part of the July 26th celebrations.

Communication and Marketing (MarComm)

Job DescriptionsThe MarComm Committee shall be responsible for mass Communication, website design and administration. This committee shall work with the personal and professional development committee to help save our Liberian community from the “Global Digital Divide”.

Community & Public Relations

Job Descriptions An organization’s reputation, profitability, and even its continued existence can depend on the degree to which its targeted “publics” and “community” support its goals and policies.

The Community & Public Relations Committee shall serve an advocate for LCA-D/FW and Diaspora; to build and maintain positive relationships with the public and it shall also handle organizational functions such as media, community, inter-organizational and governmental relations; interest-group representation; conflict mediation; and members’ relations

We do have several standing committees that you may choose from to meet your participatory needs.


Our Mission and Guiding Principles
The missioLiberian community Association – Dallas/Fort Worth and Diaspora (FW & Diaspora) is to be a servant organization dedicated to improving the lives of its members’, strengthening its communities, and fostering civic engagement through transparent and good governance, service and volunteerism.

What are the Principles that guide us?
As we pursue our mission, we are guided by the following principles:
• Communication –
Be the ambassador of Good news from and about Liberia to all Liberians and the friends of Liberia to help drive investment in Liberia.
• Put the needs of Liberians living in the Texas and Liberia first.
• Strengthen and encourage partnerships that support investment in Liberia and all of our local initiatives.
• Use our programs to build stronger, more efficient, and more sustainable community networks, capable of mobilizing volunteers to address local needs, including outreach efforts to Liberia.
• Build collaborations wherever possible across our initiatives

• Exhibit excellence in transparency government, management and service leadership.
What organization can we envision?
We envision an organization that is:
• A valuable resource to Liberians living in Texas, America and in Liberia - and a partner with - national, state and local organizations that encourage community service and address community needs through volunteerism.
• ard that operates in a cost-effective manner
• Entrepreneurial, innovative, effective, and efficient in utilizing its resources, influence, and activities.
